Ciprodex Indications

Ciprodex® (ciprofloxacin/dexamethasone) is a prescription drug commonly used for the treatment of certain bacterial ear infections. Specifically, the approved uses (or "indications") for Ciprodex include the treatment of:

  • Infections of the middle ear, medically called acute otitis media, in children with ear tubes
  • Infections of the outer ear, medically called acute otitis externa, or more commonly "swimmer's ear," in both adults and children.

Ciprodex contains a combination of ciprofloxacin, an antibiotic, and dexamethasone, a corticosteroid. Ciprofloxacin works to kill the bacteria by interfering with an enzyme the bacteria need to multiply. Dexamethasone works to reduce inflammation, redness, and itching that often occur with an ear infection.
