If you have a bacterial
ear infection, your healthcare provider may prescribe Ciprodex
® (
ciprofloxacin/dexamethasone). Specifically, Ciprodex is used for treating middle ear infections (known medically as acute otitis media) in children with ear tubes. It is also used for outer ear infections (known medically as otitis externa, or more commonly "swimmer's ear") in both children and adults.
Ciprodex contains a combination of
ciprofloxacin, an antibiotic to cure the infection, and
dexamethasone, a corticosteroid to help reduce inflammation, redness, and itching caused by the infection. It comes in the form of an ear drop and is typically used twice daily for seven days.
