Floxin Ear Drop Information
Floxin® Otic (ofloxacin otic solution) is available only by prescription and is approved for treating the following bacterial ear infections:
- Middle ear infections (called acute otitis media) in children with ear tubes
- Chronic otitis media in people with tympanic membrane (eardrum) holes
- Outer ear infections (called otitis externa, or more commonly "swimmer's ear").
Floxin Otic works by interfering with the bacteria's ability to multiply. This ear drop is not appropriate for everyone; your healthcare provider needs complete information on your medical history and what medications you are taking before prescribing Floxin Otic. Possible side effects can include ear discomfort, dizziness, and itching in the ear.
Your dosage will depend on your age and the type of infection being treated. Typically, Floxin Otic ear drops are applied into the ear once or twice daily for 7 to 14 days. It is important to take your entire course of this medication, as stopping Floxin Otic too soon may cause your infection to return.
