Floxin Otic Dosage

When using Floxin Otic, your dosage will vary depending on your age and the type of infection being treated. Although you should start feeling better within a few days of starting treatment with this medication, it is important to finish the full course of Floxin Otic. Stopping the medication too soon may cause your infection to return or lead to antibiotic resistance.

An Introduction to Your Dose of Floxin Otic

The dose of Floxin® Otic (ofloxacin otic solution) your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on:

  • Your age
  • The type of infection being treated.

As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

Floxin Otic Dosing for Otitis Externa

The standard dosage of Floxin Otic for an infection of the outer ear or ear canal (known medically as otitis externa, or more commonly "swimmer's ear") in children up to the age of 13 is five drops in the infected ear once daily for seven days.

The standard Floxin Otic dosage for otitis externa in people 13 years old and older is 10 drops in the infected ear once daily for seven days.

Floxin Otic Dosing for Otitis Media

The standard dosage of Floxin Otic for an acute middle ear infection (otitis media) in children with ear tubes is five drops in the infected ear twice daily for 10 days.

The standard dose of Floxin Otic for a chronic middle ear infection in people 12 years old or older with a hole in the eardrum is 10 drops in the infected ear twice daily for 14 days.

When treating otitis media, the tragus (the small piece of cartilage in front of your ear opening) should be pushed inward four times after instilling the medication into the ear. This helps push the medicine into the middle ear.
