An Introduction to Floxin Otic Side EffectsJust like any medicine, Floxin® Otic (ofloxacin otic solution) can cause side effects. However, not everyone who uses the medication will have problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider.
(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with Floxin Otic. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list with you.)
Common Side Effects of Floxin OticFloxin Otic has been studied extensively in clinical trials. In these studies, any potential side effects that occurred in a group of people using the drug were carefully documented.
In clinical trials, the most commonly reported side effects included:
- Ear discomfort -- in up to 16.8 percent of people
- Bitter taste -- up to 7 percent
- Itching in the ear -- up to 4 percent
- Ear pain -- up to 1 percent
- Dizziness -- up to 1 percent
- A spinning sensation (vertigo) -- up to 1 percent
- A rash -- up to 1 percent
- Unusual feelings of tingling, pricking, or "pins and needles" -- up to 1 percent.
The bitter taste is thought to be from the medication passing through the middle ear to the back of the mouth. It is not considered a serious side effect and is not a reason to stop using Floxin Otic.
