Floxin Otic Solution

If you have a middle or outer ear infection, your healthcare provider may recommend Floxin® Otic (ofloxacin otic solution). This prescription medication is only available in generic form and comes in multi-dose containers.

Floxin Otic is specifically approved for treating middle ear infections (known medically as acute otitis media) in children with ear tubes, and chronic otitis media in people with holes in their tympanic membrane (eardrum). It is also used for outer ear infections (known medically as otitis externa, or more commonly "swimmer's ear").

As a type of antibiotic, Floxin Otic works by interfering with a bacterial enzyme that the bacteria need to make DNA, which is important for the bacteria to multiply. It comes in the form of an ear drop and is typically used once or twice daily for 7 to 14 days. Potential side effects may include ear discomfort, dizziness, and itching in the ear.
