Meclizine for Children

Meclizine hydrochloride (Antivert®, Bonine®, Dramamine® Less Drowsy Formula) is an antihistamine medication that is available both over-the-counter (otc) and with a prescription. The non-prescription versions are approved for preventing and treating motion sickness symptoms, while the prescription medicine is approved for the treatment of motion sickness and vertigo.

Healthcare providers may prescribe the drug for children as young as 12 years old. Meclizine is not approved for use in younger children. If your child is younger than 12 years old, your child's healthcare provider can recommend a better treatment option for motion sickness or vertigo.
