Recovery From Vestibular Schwannoma Surgery: Leaving the Operating Room
After
vestibular schwannoma surgery, you will be moved to the intensive care unit (ICU) where you will be monitored closely as you recover from the anesthesia. You will be kept here until your healthcare providers feel that you are recovering well. You will probably stay here overnight.
Sometimes during recovery from
vestibular schwannoma surgery, patients may shiver or experience nausea. Both of these symptoms can be related to anesthesia. Your healthcare providers can give you medication to help with these symptoms. Warm blankets will also be available.
Following vestibular schwannoma surgery, it is common to feel some pain. Your healthcare providers can give you pain medicine if you experience any discomfort.
Remember that your healthcare providers want you to recover without any problems, so be sure to report anything that feels abnormal or "not right."
Recovery From Vestibular Schwannoma Surgery: Leaving the ICU
After your recovery from vestibular schwannoma surgery in the ICU, you will be transferred to a regular hospital room. Here your family and friends will be able to visit with you at the scheduled visiting times.
You will remain in the hospital for four to six days after your vestibular schwannoma surgery. However, it is possible that your stay may be longer, depending on how well your surgery went and how well you are recovering. Your healthcare providers will regularly update you and your family regarding your recovery.
Because the first few days can be uncomfortable, you will probably receive pain medications to keep you as comfortable as possible.
